At Ride 2 Rescue Cycling, our mission is simple: turn miles into second chances for dogs in need. And every chapter we create partners with a local rescue to make sure support stays close to home.
For our very first chapter, we couldn’t be more proud to highlight Coastal K9 German Shepherd Rescue of San Diego.
Who Is Coastal K9?
Founded over 15 years ago, Coastal K9 German Shepherd Rescue has become a lifeline for German Shepherds across Southern California. Their volunteers work tirelessly to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome dogs that too often find themselves in high-kill shelters or abandoned by families who can no longer care for them.
Each year, Coastal K9 provides medical care, training, and love to hundreds of Shepherds. Many of these dogs have faced abuse, neglect, or serious health challenges — yet with the right support, they thrive and find new families to call their own.
Why Ride 2 Rescue Cycling Supports Them
San Diego has always been a hub for cycling and community, and partnering with Coastal K9 allows us to merge both worlds. By riding, racing, and sharing their stories, our San Diego Chapter helps bring attention — and funding — to dogs that might otherwise be forgotten.
Every mile ridden by the San Diego Chapter is a message: these dogs matter. When our riders pin on a number or roll out for a training ride, they carry the Coastal K9 logo on their kits as a reminder of the bigger mission.
A Dog Worth Mentioning: Waverly 💜

One of Coastal K9’s most recent rescues is Waverly, a beautiful 5-year-old German Shepherd who sat unnoticed at the back of a shelter since May. Forgotten, overlooked, and nearly invisible — until Coastal K9 stepped in.
Today, Waverly is playful, affectionate, and blossoming under the care of volunteers. She’s proof of what happens when people decide that every life is worth saving. Her story is just one of many Coastal K9 brings to life.

The Road Ahead
